药品说明书, 指的是在购买药品时所提供的一份说明书——介绍药品功能, 适用情况, 帮助患者熟悉药品, 对症服药, 从而尽快获得康复。其文本是典型的非文学作品, 我们作为该说明书的译者, 在翻译过程中要使译文同样也达到“信”, “达”, “雅”的标准。

在我们生活中选购药品时, 除了药品本身的质量之外, 其说明书的翻译质量直接影响病人的用药安全和购买欲望, 所以药品说明书的翻译无疑扮演着重要角色, 因为翻译质量高的药品说明书不仅能为消费者提供详实准确的药品信息, 而且会考虑到译入语读者, 让他们充分了解药品, 决定是否购买。

一、译前准备——以“信”“达”“雅”为目标

1、夯实中英文基础

我们都知道, 非文学翻译由于涉及面广泛, 大多是我们不熟悉的领域, 所以翻译这些作品通常难度会很大, 这就要求我们作为译者的语言基础过硬, 并且具有好学的精神。不论是词汇量, 还是语法, 以及相关专业知识, 都要有所涉猎, 这样才能出一篇客观精准的译文。

文学翻译通常使用的语言是偏文学性的, 不会出现过多生难偏僻词, 没有专门性的词语。非文学翻译多为科学, 技术, 法律, 医学, 学术, 行政, 商业等方面, 译本通常是内容专业, 格式严谨, 信息量大的实用性文体, 并且含有大量的专门术语, 读者和译者需要借助大量的辞典工具去查阅。因此, 对原文词语的准确把握, 和对原文严谨态度的模仿, 对非文学翻译至关重要。

非文学翻译这项工作难度较大, 既要求译者的中英文基础较好, 能熟练表达中英文的严肃文体, 又要求译者具备善于学习的精神, 遇到生僻词勤于翻查资料, 力求最完善地译出原文的风采。与此同时, 译者更要有原文相关领域的知识储备, 如天文, 科技, 医学, 计算机等专业领域。

2、平行文本阅读

平行文本通常指与原文内容相似的译出语资料, 主要用于更深入地理解原文。简单地说, 平行文本就是与原文内容接近的任何参考资料。当我们尝试将英文的药品说明书译成中文时, 尝试表达之前, 我们需要了解中文的药品说明书通常如何表达, 了解其必备词汇和句型。这样, 我们在翻译的时候就会揣摩这种问题的风格态度, 从而译出专业的准确的非文学作品。准确性和简洁性是药品说明书翻译的两大特点, 正规化、专业化、普及性则是翻译过程要把握的地方。由此, 译者只具有医学知识是不够的, 还必须精通药品说明书的语言特点。平行文本阅读是在非文学文本译出之前, 至关重要的一个准备。

例如, “清热降火, 退翳明目。用于肝火上炎, 热毒伤络所致的白睛红赤, 羞明流泪;急性细菌性结膜炎, 流行性角结膜炎见上述症候者”。这段药品的“功能主治”介绍, 就有很强的目的性和功能性, 其语言具有一定的指导意义, 使读者了解该药品的功能特点, 因此我们在翻译的过程中, 也要秉承着使读者阅读时与阅读原文有相同感受的原则。

二、翻译策略——以“信”“达”“雅”为准则

“信”, “达”, “雅”即严复在一百年前提出的“三难说”, 对翻译实践有着实际、科学、积极的指导意义, 也是世界各国从事翻译工作的人员的一个准绳, 有普遍意义, 适用于任何文字的翻译。“信”是中心, 是主导, 也是关键。没有信, 就谈不上达, 雅。信和达, 是本着对读者和作者负责的态度, 使译文忠实于原作, 做到可信可靠, 并且将原作的精神风貌完完全全的传达过来, 达到原文所有的信息。雅, 是在准确和忠实的基础上, 使译文的语言也符合原文的语言风格, 并不是都要做到“优美”, 而是要贴合原文的风格, 原文是幽默诙谐的, 译文也要努力传递逗趣的智慧;原文是文艺恬淡的, 译文就要有清新之风;原文是严谨准确的, 译文传递的也是认真严肃的风格。

非文学翻译应符合非文学写作简洁、朴实的要求, 其内容通常具体明确, 书写格式固定, 语言简明扼要。从专业领域上讲, 非文学翻译有行政翻译, 商业翻译, 计算机翻译, 经济翻译, 金融翻译, 法律翻译, 医学翻译, 医药翻译, 科学翻译, 学术翻译等许多个领域。我们作为译者, 在翻译中, 要准确无误地再现原文所反映或欲反映的客观事实, 语言要规范朴实。在这些非文学文本的翻译中, 信息准确性要第一, 语言艺术性要第二。

例1. 咳嗽之时常服用, 每次服二至四丸, 含于口内, 男女老幼皆可服用。

Allow 2—4 polls to dissolve slowly in your mouth when required. Suitable for adults and children.

译注:将中文小短句转化为英文长句, 迎合英文表达方式。

例2. 推荐剂量为每日2 次, 每次400mg, 间隔约12 小时, 饭前至少1 小时之前或饭后至少2 小时之后服用。

Recommended dose for 2 times a day, 400 mg each time, about 12 hours, at least 1 hour before meals or at least 2 hours after meals.

译注:语言简洁, 准确, 原句各成分与译文中各成分完全对等, 各成分在句中位置也对等。

例3. In clinical trials the drug was shown to be highly effective in improving and normalizing the alternated cerebral circulation and those disorders related to insufficient arterial flow in the limbs.

临床试验证实, 本品疗效高, 可改善已改变了的脑循环, 使之恢复正常, 治疗与四肢动脉血流不畅有关的疾病。

译注:将英文的长句分化为汉语的短句, 使之简明贴切, 符合非文学文本中语言客观的要求。

从上面例句来看, 第一个直观的感觉是语序问题, 都使用了简单的陈述句, 中英文语序对仗工整。其次, 原文简洁朴实的风格在译文中, 也呈现出了客观简明的风格, 符合了“达”和“雅”的标准。
