书信格式

英文书信的构成可分为7个部分:

信头(Heading)

日期(Date)

收信人姓名及地址(Inside Name and Address)

称呼(Salutation)

信文(Body of the letter)

结束语(Complimentary close)

署名(Signature)

(1)信头(Heading)

信头是指发信人的单位名称或地址。一般情况下发信人只需把自己的地址写(打字,手写均可)在信的右上角,离开信纸的顶头约1英寸,占二三行或四行均可,格式如下:

注意:写地址的次序与中文不同,应先写门牌号码街道,然后城市和国名。写地址时间采用齐头或缩进式,以及每行后要不要加标点符号,都没有固定的规定,如写给经常往来的亲友,这项地址也可以省略。

(2)日期(Date)

写日期注意下列各点:

① 年份应写全。例如不能用“99”来代替“1999”;

② 月份应写英文名称,除May, July外,可用缩写,如:Sep., Oct.。但不要用数字来代替,如7/4/99或7,4,99,因为在英国此日期代表7th April, 1999, 而美国则代表4th July, 1999。

③日期可用1,2,3,4…11,12…21,22…31等,也可用1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th… 11th, 21st…22 nd, 31 st等。

一、多读多背, 多写多练

1.在平时教学中, 应该积极培养学生获取信息、分析信息、处理信息的基本能力, 培养学生的语言应用能力, 要求学生学会分析基本句型的句子成分、复合句以及一些复杂的句子结构, 初期要求仿照表达。

2.强调学生收集优美句型, 高级词汇, 多读多记, 写作的时候, 培养学生有意识地运用。

3.要提高学生的写作水平, 还得要求他们进行大量的练习。在练习的过程中, 要循序渐进。首先, 每天都要进行几个单句翻译, 等到学生能够学会正确的表达, 不出现语态时态和主谓不一致的错误及不出现汉语式英语的时候, 再对学生进行话题训练, 给出相关某个话题, 要求学生写出几句话来进行表达。之后, 我们才能进行其他系统的训练。

二、改写句式结构, 提高写作技巧

在练习英语写作中, 我们可以多鼓励学生使用较复杂的语言结构。例如, 在一句话中加入定语从句、状语从句、名词性从句等复杂句式, 也可以引导学生使用变化多样的句式, 如祈使句、倒装句、 省略句等;还可以运用非谓语动词, 强调句型和其他固定句型。采用联合、扩展和缩约等方式来变化句式等, 使句型结构丰富多彩、 多种多样, 同样的一个意义可以有多种句子结构来表达, 使语言更加丰富, 给文章增加亮点, 提高得分率。

三、使用高级词汇, 美化写作语句

文章中高级词汇的运用, 可以充分表达作者的词汇量和整体英语水平。如, I believe I should try my best to study English well.可以使用高级词汇给这句话增色:I am convinced that I am supposed to make every effort to have a good command of English.

四、合理布局全文, 恰当连接组合

要想写出一篇优美的文章, 学生在组合材料的要点之后, 应该根据逻辑关系对要点进行调整, 应用一些关联词来使文章层次分明, 条理清晰, 逻辑性强。培养学生有意识地运用关联词。如表示开首的有:first of all, to start with, above all, to begin with, first and foremost, most important of all等, 表达并列的有:what’s more, further- more, in addition, more over, besides, not only … but also, on the one hand...on the other hand, for one thing...for another thing, 等, 表示列举的有:such as, for example, for instance等, 表示最后总结的有:fi- nally, eventually, last but not least等。

五、面批面改, 培养学生的自信

要写出优美的文章, 除了指导学生从以上各方面努力之外, 老师更要时时给予学生支持和鼓励, 遇到学生写的优美语句, 老师应该及时表扬。并且更重要的是老师对学生作文应该做到当面指点、 当面批改, 因为每个学生的英语水平、写作风格都不一样, 老师针对每个学生的具体情况给予及时恰当的指导会极大地鼓舞孩子, 激发他们的写作兴趣, 能及时地改变学生存在的各种问题, 避免所谓的眼高手低、重理论轻实践等各种失误。

命题形式

下面以两道真题为例来介绍这种题型的命题形式。

例1:2011年高考英语全国卷I书面表达

假定你是李华,正在一所英国学校学习暑期课程,遇到一些困难,希望得到学校辅导中心 (Learning Center) 的帮助。根据学校规定,你需书面预约,请按下列要点写一封信:

1. 本人简介;

2. 求助内容;

3. 约定时间;

4. 你的联系方式 (Email: lihua@1236.com; Phone: 12345678)。

注意: 1. 词数100左右;2. 可以适当增加细节,以使行文连贯;3. 结束语已为你写好。

例2:2010年高考英语全国卷II书面表达

假设你是李华,你的美国笔友Peter曾表示希望来中国教书。你校现需招聘外教,请给他写封信,告知招聘信息。内容主要包括:

1. 教授课程:英语口语、英语写作、今日美国、今日英国等

2. 授课对象:高中生(至少三年英语基础)

3. 工作量:

——每周12学时,任选三门课

——担任学生英语俱乐部或英语校报顾问(advisor)

从这两道题目中考生可以直观地看出,书信题目一般分为三个部分,分别是“背景介绍”“内容要点”和“注意事项”。“背景介绍”部分模拟了一个实际生活中可能存在的情景,告诉考生“为什么需要写这封信”;“内容要点”部分给出这封信中一定要涵盖的三到四个内容点,告诉考生“这封信中要写些什么”;“注意事项”部分给出字数等限制性要求,为考生答题立下一定的规矩。题目中一般会给出称呼语和落款,有时还会给出结束语或开头语。

命题趋势

为什么命题人喜欢选用这种题型呢?这是因为书信作文有以下三大特点。

1. 贴近生活。书信作文比一般的提纲式议论文更加贴近日常生活中的实际交际,符合高考英语大纲“贴近生活”“注重实际运用能力”的要求。

2. 形式规范。和其他几种应用文相比,书信在形式上有着更加明确的写作规范,容易制定统一的评分标准。

3. “题库”完善。书信作文虽无固定“题库”,但过去多年的考试经验已积累了丰富的真题资源,命题专家参考历年各省考过的真题,容易命制高质量的题目。

基于以上三点原因,笔者预计,在今年以及今后几年,书信仍然是高考英语书面表达的命题重点。

解题策略

大体上来说,除了开头的称呼和最后的落款外,书信作文可分开头段、中间段和结尾段三部分来写,既要符合书信的一般套路如要有问候语和祝福语等,又要涵盖写作要求中的内容要点,把问题或事情交代完整。下面具体讲解各段的写法。

1. 开头段

开头段应写出四方面的内容,即问候、自我介绍、写信背景、写信目的。这部分应简洁明快,用几句话交代清上述四方面内容即可。

① 问候。问候是考生交际能力和个人修养的体现,也是写信最基本的套路。如果不对收信人进行简单的问候就开门见山地“就事论事”,会显得突兀和不自然。问候部分很简单,往往一句“How are you?”就能搞定。

② 自我介绍。如果对方不认识你,就有必要写一句自我介绍。自我介绍需要根据题目所给信息来写,一般包括姓名、身份、所在学校等(注意:切不可写出考生自己的真实姓名和所在学校),如在2011年全国卷I书面表达中应简要介绍写信人名叫李华,“正在一所英国学校学习暑期课程”(I'm Li Hua, a Chinese student taking summer courses in your university.)。有时,有的题目还会要求你写兴趣爱好、家庭环境等信息。这时,最佳的写法就是综合运用多种语法知识,用一两句话囊括全部的必要信息,体现考生高水平的语言运用能力。例如:I'm Li Hua, a 17-year-old boy currently studying in Xinhua High School. Born to a family of writers, I'm crazy about reading novels and writing poems.

③ 写信背景。要用一句话交代出“你为什么要写这封信”。此时可参考题目中的“背景介绍”部分,进行简单的翻译或转述。如2011年全国卷I书面表达题目中,“遇到一些困难”就属于写信背景; 2010年全国卷II书面表达题目中,“你的美国笔友Peter曾表示希望来中国教书”“你校现需招聘外教”这两个内容点亦属于写信背景。

④ 写信目的。要用一句话明确指出“你写这封信是为了达成什么目的”。写信目的在题目中的“背景介绍”部分往往都有提示。如2011年全国卷I书面表达题目中的“希望得到学校辅导中心(Learning Center)的帮助”就是写信目的,可写成:Now, I am writing to ask you for help. 2010年全国卷II书面表达题目中的“告知招聘信息”亦为写信目的,可写成:Now, I am writing to tell you about the details.

需要指出的是,如果题目中要求的写信目的不唯一,那么开头段中可不必写出写信目的,而在中间段中具体体现。如2009年山东卷书面表达:

假设你是李华,曾在美国学习半年,现已回国。你想联系你的美国老师Mr. Smith,但没有其联系方式。请根据以下要点给你的美国同学Tom 写一封信:

1. 感谢Tom对你英语学习的帮助;

2. 询问Mr. Smith的近况并索要其联系方式;

3. 邀请Tom在春节期间来中国感受中国文化。

注意:1. 词数120~150;2. 可适当增加细节。

在这道题中,虽然“背景介绍”部分提到这封信的主要目的是询问Mr. Smith的联系方式,但是后面的“内容要点”部分给出的三个内容要点并非完全围绕这一目的展开,而是分别完成了“感谢”“询问”和“邀请”三种交际功能。因此,首段中不宜唐突指出写信目的仅为“索要联系方式”。

根据“写信目的”的不同,书信可分为感谢信、邀请信、建议信、道歉信、自荐信、求助信等,其写信目的的写法各不相同,常用句型列举如下:

感谢信: I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude to you.

邀请信: I am writing to invite you to join the ... (as our guest/judge).

建议信: I am writing these lines to give you some suggestions.

道歉信: I am writing to express my heartfelt apology to you.

自荐信: I am writing this letter to apply for the job/position.

求助信: I am writing to ask you to do me a favor.

值得一提的是,近年来,书信命题涉及的内容日趋灵活,已经不限于上述常见的书信类型,呈现出“形式变化不多,内容丰富多样”的趋势。像2009年山东卷这种一封书信里面包含多个相互联系不甚紧密的内容要点的情况越来越多,大家需要重视起来,并学会灵活应对。

2. 中间段

书信类作文题目一般都会列出三到四个内容要点。在这些内容要点中,某些次要内容可以写到开头段和结尾段中,但关键的内容点必须独立成段,称为“中间段”。

中间段应按照“具体问题+具体分析”的逻辑思路,写成“要点+拓展”的结构,类似于语文议论文中的“总—分”结构。如2011年全国卷I书面表达中,“求助内容”就应该写成一个独立的中间段落。考生可先写“我在几个方面遇到困难需要求助”(要点),再分别描述这几个困难(拓展)。再如2010年全国卷II书面表达中,三个内容要点可以全部放在中间段来写。

在中间段中,陈述要点难度并不大,只需转述题目中的“内容要点”即可。真正使考生感到困扰的是“拓展”部分!“拓展”一般有两种情况,一种情况是题中用中文给出具体信息,需要考生用英语表达出来(如2010年全国卷II书面表达);另一种情况是题中不给出具体信息,需要考生自己去发挥(如2011年全国卷I书面表达)。

对考生来讲,这两种情况各有利弊。如果是第一种情况,题目中的中文提示往往很难直接翻译成英语,需要考生具有“同义转述”的能力,用自己的语言表达出题目要求的内容,如果逐字翻译很容易闹出一些中式英语笑话;如果是第二种情况,难点在于通过发散思维想到容易表达的内容。不论是哪种情况,多个拓展句之间都要用过渡词相连,形成完整、连贯的信息流。

中间段是文章的主体部分,中间段的质量将直接影响考生分数的高低。上文提到书信可分成感谢信、建议信等多种类型,事实上,每种类型的书信都有其相应的中间段写法,在冲刺备考阶段,考生应精研历年真题及范文,一一掌握每种书信类型的中间段写法。

3. 结尾段

结尾段一般为各种“客套话”。客套话包含感谢、致歉、必要的补充说明、个人愿望、期待回信等等。在交际中,合理地使用客套话可以体现考生的交际能力和个人修养。要想写好结尾段,考生应识记一些常用的客套话写法,例如:

① 再次表达歉意:I would like to apologize to you again for doing sth. (用于道歉信)

② 希望得到某份工作:If the chance were offered to me, I would dedicate all my effort and wisdom to the job. (用于自荐信)

③ 希望对方的问题得到解决:Hopefully, these suggestions will be beneficial and useful for you. (用于建议信)

④ 希望对方能够施予援手:Hopefully, you will be so kind to give me a hand at your earliest convenience. (用于求助信)

⑤ 感谢对方读信:Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. (用于各种书信)

⑥ 期盼对方回信:Sincerely looking forward to your early reply. (用于各种书信)

如果题目中并未给出落款,考生需在书信的结尾写上“Best wishes”以及“Yours truly/sincerely, Li Hua”等,以满足书信格式的要求。

连接词的运用不仅使文章结构严密、浑然一体,而且能够增强文章的说服力和感染力,保证段落或篇章的连贯性。汉语讲究意合,文中不必大量使用连接词也能表达出各种逻辑关系,但英语讲究的是形合,这不仅体现在英语严谨的语法和词形变化上,还体现在英语篇章中句与句之间常用连接词来衔接的传统上。连接词不仅是区分中英文写作的重要标志,也是在短时间内提高高考英语写作分数的有效手段。

常用连接词

连接词在英文各种文体中均有使用。按其功能划分,最常用的连接词有以下八种类型。

1. 表示转折关系

转折关系是逻辑关系中最常见的一种,在高考英语写作中常常会用到,比如在记叙文中表达事情出现转折、在议论文中表达不同的观点等。表示转折关系常用的连接词有but、yet、however、nevertheless、in spite of、although、on the contrary、otherwise、in contrast、whereas等。在写作时,同学们不要总用最简单的but,而应选择使用不同的转折连接词,以丰富文章用词。例如:

① To be honest, it was Su's fault but Li was also to blame—they were not calm enough and both said some really mean things. (2012年江苏卷)

② Everyone has his dream. However, it is not always easy for people to realize their dreams. (2013年北京卷)

2. 表示添加信息

在写作时,除了主要信息,你可能还需要以罗列或递进的方式添加一些其他信息来丰富文章内容。有时候是通过一个句子连接多个信息,此时多半是在罗列,常用的连接词有and、either ... or、neither ... nor、not only ... but also、as well (as)等;有时候是列举一些事件、观点、原因或目的后再添加一些信息表示递进,此时常用的连接词有furthermore、besides、moreover、in addition、what is more、worse still等。例如:

3. 表示因果关系

因果关系在记叙文和议论文中都很常见。表示因果关系的连接词可分两种,分别为引出原因的连接词和引出结果的连接词。当原因较少且易于总结时,可用引出原因的连接词,常用的有because、because of、owing to、due to、thanks to、on account of、since等。当需要分几句话来阐明原因时,可以先阐明原因,再用引出结果的连接词来阐述结果,常见的此类连接词有therefore、as a result、consequently、as a consequence、thus、hence等。例如:

常用的表示解释、说明关系的连接词有actually、in fact、such as、for example/instance、that is to say、in other words、to tell you the truth、according to、to be specific、to illustrate等,这类连接词在议论文中较常用到。例如:

7. 表示时间顺序

在记叙文中,记述一件事情的发展过程离不开表示时间顺序的连接词。常用的表示时间顺序的连接词有after、afterwards、first、second、meanwhile、after that、after a while、at first、in the beginning、to begin with、later、next、then、finally、immediately、all of a sudden、at the moment、as soon as、from now on、not ... until、during、in the end、eventually等。例如:

高考英语看图作文通常是给出一幅或两幅或多幅图片,要求考生仔细分析图片内容,并通过文字形式将图中所包含的思想内容准确地表达出来。一般来说,所给图片均反映某一社会现象或社会现实。

看图进行书面表达的基本要求是:认真审图、确定主题、提炼要点、展开联想、变点为句、连句成篇。要达到这些要求,我们就必须认真审图,善于利用图中人物间的关系、人物的对话、人物的活动及所处场所、以及图中的文字说明和标识来提炼要点;要有敏锐的观察力,利用图片中的所有信息,揣摩、推测出题者的意图,确定图片所表达的中心思想。

二、高考英语看图作文的写作技巧

1. 仔细审题:包括文体、人称、时态。理解到位:整体把握整幅图或一组图的连贯性理解及题目要求。

3.扩展成句:注意英语表达的习惯,根据提纲扩展句子。细节到位:注意整幅图或每幅图的次要内容(时间、地点、方式、原因等)。

4.连句成篇:利用一些表示转折、因果、选择等关系的关联词和过渡句,把句子连接起来。表达到位:按情节发展先后,承上启下整理成文。

5.全面检查:格式、文体、要点、语法、字数等。检查到位:对照整幅图或每幅图,检查全文定稿。

2.人称和时态的确定

The picture shows us a touching moment when a little girl comes to greet her working mom. Realizing her mom must be very tired after a day’s work, The girl helps to remove the bag from her shoulder. In response, the mom kneels down to show how happy and thankful she feels.

All this reminds me of my mother who has been doing whatever she could to let me have the best. But totally engaged in my own study, I seldom pay attention to what my mother needs and feels, and think studying well is the only thing I could do in return. Now I know I can do my bit to help with the everyday washing, bedroom cleaning or at least prepare breakfast myself,so as to share my mother’s daily burden.
